Beautiful Creatures. Interview with Alden Ehrenreich
- Did you have a chance to compare the script and the story of the original book?
- I’ve read the script first, then I’ve got the part and read the book to better understand my character. The scenes I would like to alter, probably, were at present, but also director Richard LaGravenese took out all the best of the book, all the changes he introduced were made to enrich the story to the better. Here the most important is that he managed to capture the tone and feel of the original Beautiful Creatures.
I feel that he did it really well. I’m sure, there will be fans, who are obsessed with the book, and they might miss certain characters or things, but when you adapt a story, which is 500+ pages long, you just have to make these sacrifices to be able to achieve the depth there, where it is needed.
- What is your dream character after all?
- It is hard to know, till I read something. I don’t know, until I see it, and if it is the right one, I’ll love it, but there are so many parts I’d enjoy playing and, probably, even more beyond than I can imagine.
- Don’t you think Ethan of Beautiful Creatures is naive in Love?
- I would disagree with my character being naive in love himself. Young people at his age have such kind of a weapon like the ability to follow their impulses. Maybe, that’s because love gets closer and more open to them. Though it doesn’t mean that these people set a goal at the time to become the best boyfriends ever. I would agree though that they, probably, still don’t have a knowledge yet of bringing their relationship to the next and more mature level.
- Are you ready to become a new girls’ idol like Robert Pattinson of The Twilight (2008-2012) saga?
- I haven’t seen The Twilight (2008-2012) movies, so I don’t know, how similar they are to our Beautiful Creatures story, but I know that they share the same genre and the same audience demographics. I hope, the people will like our film as much as they like The Twilight series. I don’t know, if I’m ready to become a girls’ idol. We will see. Then I have no idea, how you get ready for that. What should I do? I don’t know! [Laughs].
- Name 3 things you associate with Russia.
- The writers Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860-1904), Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky (1821-1881), the politician Leon Trotsky (1879-1940). I also like the Dostoyevsky statue a lot, yeah!
- Thank you, Alden!
