Supermodel actress Milla Jovovich together with director, producer, writer and husband Paul W.S. Anderson stopped by in Moscow this week during their Promotional Tour hailing the new episode of the Resident Evil (2002-2012) film franchise. They arrived shortly after visiting a similar event in Tokyo, while there are still several days before the movie opens in theaters worldwide on the 14th of September, 2012. In this Video you can see and hear both celebrities to find out, what they have to say about making the new title and being in Russia.
The Press Conference of Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson in Moscow gathered enough media attention here, since the fate of the franchise is currently with Paul W.S. Anderson waiting for the box office figures to decide, whether the series deserves one final film, which could serve as a logical conclusion. The latest part is very much inspired by the video games in the Resident Evil (1996-2012) line up. For the time being, Paul W.S. Anderson switched all his roles from production and writing efforts to directing some Resident Evil movies, including the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution one.
Milla Jovovich starred in such movies as The Fifth Element (1997), The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999), Zoolander (2001), Ultraviolet (2006), The Three Musketeers (2011) and one Russian melodrama Lucky Trouble (2011). Her other famous character is Alice, who is the protagonist for all the Resident Evil films. During her Press Conference the celebrity originating from Ukraine spoke Russian as much as she could. Alongside Paul W.S. Anderson they extensively covered not more than ten complex questions, asked by the media and Sony Pictures Russia host Andrey Razygraev.
The VIP-guests talked not only about filming Resident Evil: Retribution, but also about Russia, life and work preferences and future career plans. Paul W.S. Anderson had to explain once again the reason for bringing back previously killed characters, while Milla Jovovich also shared her thoughts about physical requirements for such a role. Before you are moving on to watch the whole Video of the Moscow Press Conference, which took place at the Ritz hotel, we offer you to look at our pick with the Best Star Quotes of this event.
Milla Jovovich (Actress): «I would like to act in a film related to the Russian literature. Most of all, I’d be interested in portraying the life and also love of a well-known Russian poetess named Anna Akhmatova (1889-1996). Russian classics features a lot of great stories, but how could you film such novels as «The Master and Margarita» (1929-1940) not in Russian language? How would you translate the lines of Ivan Bedomny? Or the part, where a character eats pickled cucumbers drinking vodka?
For me, obviously, the special effects are really minimal, because Paul is working on them after the movie is finished. So for the most part myself and other actors included, we were working with a green screen, having to react to balls or random X signs in Resident Evil: Retribution. There is a kind of challenge working with this green screen and doing films that rely heavily on the special effects. You have to get used to this, and you do have to accomodate».
Paul W.S. Anderson (Director, Producer, Writer): «For me the most challenging part of the movie was the Moscow scenes. I always wanted to make a car chase featuring fancy Rolls-Royce. I didn’t get, why no one had ever done that before. Once we started, I realised why. The cars are hugely expensive costing around 0,5 mln. USD per car. We completely trashed three Rolls-Royces. Milla’s mother was very upset. She hoped we would spare one up and give it to her as a Christmas present maybe.
We see some of the older characters returing in Resident Evil: Retribution for several reasons. I wanted to get Michelle Rodriguez back, because she is just awesome, and I love working with her. She established a great relationsip working with Milla not only behind the camera, but in front of the camera, especially. I remember vividly, when we were shooting the first Resident Evil (2002), on the day we killed her character with a bullet to her head, she approached me and said: «Paul, you are making a big mistake here. You will regret this». And I did. Then I have been trying to figure out a way to get her back to the franchise».
Running Time: 26 minutes and 33 seconds.
